Cypress, Ltd. and Ice Energy, Inc. have teamed up to help PG&E customers reduce peak demands for power and save money. The $10 million Shift & Save program will run from 2007 through 2011 and will enhance power grid reliability while giving PG&E customers a seat at the environmental table. Designed to pay incentives based on peak loads permanently shifted (kW) to non-peak times, the total potential payment for new construction /kW shifted is $1,400 and $1,950 for retrofit applications.
Unlike Demand Response, which reduces the peak load on specific days when the power grid is at risk of overload, Shift & Save permanently removes daily AC peak loads over the entire peak season. A strategic part of PG&E's green energy focus, Shift & Save helps protect California against rolling blackouts and reduces the need for construction of new generation plants.
Using Ice Bear® technology from Ice Energy, Shift & Save allows qualified PG&E customers to install equipment that uses less expensive, less polluting nighttime power to create and store cooling for use the next day. Administered by Cypress, Ltd. the Shift & Save market qualifications include:
