Customer Benefits

The Shift & Save® initiative offers incentives to customers who add Thermal Energy Storage to existing or new air conditioning equipment. Program participants on PG&E time-of-use rates also benefit from ongoing savings on their energy bill by reducing their electricity use between noon and 6 p.m. on weekdays and during the summer peak period. Additionally, Shift & Save® helps:

Cool Storage is the low cost way to make Wind and Photo Voltaic more viable by allowing these Renewable Energies to be "Dispatchable" during Peak hours

Air Conditioning (thermal load) biggest contributor (apx. 50%) to peak in CA so customers can greatly reduce their electrical costs

Demand charge savings & some energy charge savings

Demand and energy costs will continue to rise, therefore applying TES will produce increasing customer cost avoidance

Title-24 Energy Standards: cooling budget reduction

Can earn Green Building Council LEED points by reducing building energy costs

First cost can be minimized - improves payback, reduce size of chiller plant

Larger delta T reduces system flow (smaller pumps, pipe size)

Lower temp air distribution means fan motor and duct size savings

Smaller electrical service needs (switch gear, transformers, motor control panels, distribution)

Increased resale value due to lower operating costs

Any chiller replacement a good candidate if the building cooling loads are low at night (age, reliability, inefficiency, capacity and refrigerant phase out)

With increasing outdoor air needs, RH control TES can better maintain temp at full load

Adds cooling capacity to existing ducts, fans and pumps

Earn LEED Certification Points

Shift & Save® earns valuable LEED points for a percentage above Title-24 prescriptive standards. The breakdown of points includes one point for innovative technology and up to four points for energy and atmospheric features.
